A Tradition of Excellence.
The Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy (SASA) has been expanding and enhancing learning opportunities for gifted/talented students in the Tri-County area since 1981. During its history, initially as the Center for the Arts and Sciences (C.A.S.) and since 1999 as the Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy, it has earned a national reputation for excellence.
What makes us special?
It begins with an experienced, dedicated and talented faculty. Then there is the challenging curriculum and unique learning environment that allows students to fully develop their special talents. Whether the area of concentration is mathematics/science, language arts, global studies, visual arts, theatre, voice/keyboard or dance, students are encouraged and challenged to excel. Another special quality of the student body is that they are talented, focused and highly motivated.
Over the years, students have won countless awards and earned many prestigious scholarships. Annually, students have performed in an exemplary manner on Advanced Placement Examinations. The school has produced two Presidential Scholars, three Congressional pages, many State and International Science and Engineering Fair Award winners, top award winners in the Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition, Blue Lake and Interlochen scholarship recipients, top national student poets, Scholastic Writing and Art Award winners, and Governor's Traveling Art Award exhibitors, to name just a few. ICONs, our art and literary magazine, has earned a Gold Crown and annual national awards for excellence from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
Most importantly, numerous graduates have used the training, experiences and knowledge they received as a stepping stone to rewarding careers. Theatre majors are now working on Broadway, on television, and even running a touring theatre company. Visual arts majors have found careers ranging from commercial art to university teaching. Math/science graduates are now doctors, engineers, chemists and computer industry whizzes. Each area of study has produced many successful graduates who proudly got their start at the S.A.S.A.
